Meeting Community Need

Havens Community Hub volunteers and staff pride themselves in identifying unmet community need and creating pathways which ‘find a way - or make a way’:

Our first project launch was Havens Community Cars, a volunteer car driver scheme, which is now a CIO (charity) in its own right, that provides residents in the Havens area access to transport provided by our wonderful team of volunteer drivers.

We have supported several groups in danger of immediate closure and by using our grass-roots network and knowledge of local funders and volunteers, have helped save the services for the community.

One of these projects was the Havens Happy Clubs - a social interaction, loneliness-busting service for older people with creative activities, friendship and reduction of social isolation, now a separate charity in its own right.

The Havens Food Cooperative was launched during the Pandemic of 2020. The food waste and redistribution project now saves tonnes of perishable food going to landfill and redistributes food on a daily basis to groups and individuals in need of additional support.

Havens Community Hub also offered support for the ‘Digital-First’ 2021 Census By helping community members to complete their ten-yearly Census, either online or via paper copy.

We were amongst the first organisations in Sussex to offer ‘Kickstart’ Job Placements and supported three placements for 16-24 year olds.

The Havens Hub office is used by The Wave Bank (Credit Union) on a Wednesday afternoon to provide financial saving and investment guidance to local residents.

Havens Community Hub is happy to help support volunteers of all ages gain experience and knowledge as well as support our local community.
