Havens Food Cooperative are proud to be a member of the Lewes District Food Partnership, working to connect people in the Lewes District to create better food systems for everyone.

Havens Food Cooperative

Havens Food Cooperative is a scheme to reduce waste, repurpose items and redistribute food on a daily basis.

Working under the umbrella of Havens Community Hub CIC, we prioritise families, groups and individuals with the highest need and ensure any surplus is not wasted. We are given short shelf-life, mislabeled, wonky or overproduced food/items.

We use the food we rescue to assist both those who are in a position of food insecurity and those who want to help the environment by saving food from being sent to landfill. Any food we receive that is beyond its useful edible life is composted in our ‘Hot Bins’ and used by local gardeners to grow more produce to share.

Havens Food Cooperative is also happy to report that they are currently supporting groups such as schools, social clubs and youth groups. Havens Food Cooperative is also happy to report that they are currently supporting groups such as schools, social clubs and youth groups through their Pop-up-Pantry Scheme, routinely donating surplus food parcels to these groups to be redistributed in other settings and locations, seeking to support the wider community with surplus food provisions.

We are currently working with stores including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Co-op, Waitrose and Asda; along with organisations such as FareShare and Co-op Food Share. Together we are currently saving over 3 tonnes (close to 500 stone) of perishable food from being sent to landfill each month and helping over 60 households a day.
