An Important Announcement from Havens Community Cars:

It is with great sadness that we have made the difficult decision to wind down the Havens Community Cars volunteer driver service, with our final drive taking place on 30 November 2026.

This follows many months of careful consideration and the reality that we can no longer sustain the number of volunteer drivers needed to continue. This has not been an easy decision.

Havens Community Cars was established seven years ago largely because people were unable to access suitable transport to hospital and other NHS appointments. Our volunteer drivers have been proud to help fill that gap, providing not just transport but companionship, independence, reassurance and connection to people in our community.

However, times have changed. Our service depends on people who have their own cars, are available during the day and are willing to give their time. Increasingly, we simply cannot recruit enough people able to make that commitment. We completely understand that volunteering both time and a car is a significant commitment, but sadly we have reached the point where the service is no longer sustainable.

Despite the sadness of ending the service, we are incredibly proud of what Havens Community Cars has achieved over the last seven years:

Our volunteer drivers have supported thousands of journeys, and their contribution was formally recognised through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. During Covid in particular, they provided an invaluable lifeline to people who were isolated or unable to access other forms of transport.

We are profoundly grateful to every volunteer driver, member, trustee, funder, partner and supporter who has helped make Havens Community Cars what it is.

We helped where help was needed, and we made a difference when it mattered.

While our final journey will take place on 30 November, the kindness and community spirit that have defined Havens Community Cars will live on in the many people and lives touched along the way.
