CHARITY MOT

What is a Charity M.O.T?

Every year a vehicle has an annual test for vehicle safety and roadworthiness to ensure that it meets legal standards.

Havens Community Hubs’s charity M.O.T is a health check, designed specifically for small charities and groups to ensure that they meet legal standards and are, in effect, roadworthy, navigating the challenges that many charities face and supporting them to reach their destination.

Charities are being asked to take on more every year and cracks are beginning to show. They now must operate in a complex environment of regulation, as well as a changing time in economic and social policy.

A new study has revealed charities are not confident in their ability to generate the income needed to meet their charitable goals. Fearing political uncertainty and an economic downturn at a time when they are being asked to do more following a decade of austerity. (Source: Third sector news)

A recent study found 50% of charities are not confident that their funding levels will enable them to meet their charitable objectives in the coming year. Funding, will be just one of the core areas reviewed in HCH’s Charity M.O.T

According to Sarah Vibert, the CEO of NCVO (The National Council for Voluntary Organisations)

“The We predict the current tough economic climate for charities will continue through 2024. Both high inflation and interest rates will present challenges for organisations already juggling increasing operating costs and record demand for services.”

“It’s unlikely we will see much economic respite in 2024, and this makes collaboration more vital than ever – between funders and voluntary organisations, but also between voluntary organisations.”(Source: www.ncvo.org.uk/news-and-insights)

The M.O.T will include a review of:

  • Constitution and Governance

  • Charities Vision & Objectives
